The first bar chart shows the number of marriages and divorces between year 1970- 2000 in USA and the second bar chart shows marital status of adult American people in year 1970 and 2000. It is evident that number of marriages have declined from year 1970 to 2000. The majority of adult Americans were married, but proportion of single adults was greater in year 2000.
In year 1970, there were 2.5 millions marriages , this number had declined to 2 million by year 2000 . However , the number of divorces in 1970 stood at 1 million which rose to 1.4 million by next decade and then gradually falling to 1 million by year 2000.
Around 70% of American adults were married in year 1970 which has fallen to 59% in year 2000. At the same time , the proportion of single and divorced adults had increased . In 1970, there was approximately 12% of single people which rose to 20% by year 2000. Also, divorced adults rose from just about 1% in 1970 to 9% by year 2000.
In conclusion we can see that less americans got married , and percentage of single people increased in year 2000 than in 1970 .
